Waynetown -- Ernest Edwin Livengood, 77, prominent Waynetown banker died at 4:25 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his home in Waynetown. He had been ill for the past 8 months, suffering from carcinoma. During the early portion of his life, Mr. Livengood was in railroad work, serving as telegrapher and station agent for many years with the Big Four Railroad. For the past 23 years, he had been cashier of the Waynetown State Bank, relinquishing his duties only when he became ill 8 months ago.
Mr. Livengood took a leading part in activities of the Waynetown Church of Christ. In addition, he was a member of the Masonic, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and Eastern Star lodges.
He was born on July 21, 1857; 8 miles south of Hillsboro, the son of Elias and Sarah Livengood. On June 24, 1894, Mr. Livengood was married to Anna F. Andrews at Champaign, Ill. Mrs. Livengood died Oct 30, 1922. Later on Sept 14, 1924, Mr. Livengood married at Crawfordsville to Mrs. Bercha Groves, who survives.
Survivors, besides the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Clara L. Mooney of Chicago and Mrs. Ina R. Shanks of Washington DC; a son, Paul A. Livengood of Mohawk, Ind; a brother, John E. Livengood of Seattle, Wash; a sister, Mrs. EM Keller of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, one of whom, Edwin Livengood is with the US Armies in France and one great grandchild. Two sons, Young and Austin preceded their father in death.
Friends may pay their respects at the family residence in Waynetown after 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Waynetown Church of Christ in charge of CE Terbush, a former Waynetown minister, now home on furlough from a Texas Army post where he is a chaplain. He will be assisted by the Rev. Fred Sharp. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour preceding the funeral.
